A natural transition between the artificial restoration and its surrounding gingiva is the primary factor for esthetic success. The cervical contouring concept was introduced two decades ago, to treat and guide predictably the soft tissue envelope of natural teeth, pontics and around implant borne restorations.

Current strategies of the prosthetic phases of the treatment - will be shown and discussed when restoring implant restorations, in order to achieve optimal peri-implant envelope in its volume, appearance and long term stability. Benefits and limitations of each strategy will be critically analyzed.
